DESCRIPTION
This course focuses on the Spanish Health System today and its implementation, health care delivery, stakeholders and major problems and challenges. Students will learn and debate about the Spanish Healthcare System from an international perspective and will address the introduction of new processes, technologies and strategies to improve its quality and outcomes.
This course is recommended for Nursing students.

THEORY
1- Short Introduction to the Spanish Healthcare System, Overall Strategy, Law, Core Values, Comparative Perspective & Characteristics. (5 hours).
- Monday, June 3 (2.5 hours) & Tuesday, June 4 (2.5 hours)
2- Finance, Resources & Organization: Public, Private & Mix-up Models in the Spanish Healthcare Systems, Hospital Services, Primary Health Care, Pharmaceuticals, Public Health Services, Manpower & Healthcare providers.(5 hours).
- Wednesday, June 5 (2.5 hours) & Thursday, June 6 (2.5 hours)
3- Current Issues in Healthcare, Health Status of the Spanish Population, Reduction of Health Inequalities, Needs & Demands for Healthcare in Spain.(5 hours).
- Monday, June 10 (2.5 hours) & Tuesday, June 11 (2.5 hours)
4- Organization and management to increase efficiency, New Models & Challenges for the Spanish Healthcare System.

CLINICAL PRACTICAL SESSIONS
50 hour practice will be monitored in different clinical settings, Medical Centers and will be distributed as follows:

Students will be organized into different groups to work on a TEAM PROJECT in collaboration with the clinical staff (Hospital General Universitario de Alicante & Clínica Vistahermosa de Alicante).

METHODOLOGY
Theory and practical sessions about the specific topics related to the Healthcare system, research (scientific and media), team work, debates and workshops.
EVALUATION
Final evaluation will depend on the presentation of different team projects. Active participation in all activities are essential. Part of the evaluation will depend also on the final group project after completing the practical sessions.
